Thought that this video highlighted something pretty fascinating in regards to the recent 'fad' of making films in 3D. Mostly, the process has been met with wide negativity, with only the likes of Avatar exercising it's true potential. This current production blog of The Hobbit explains Director Peter Jackson's use of the 'RED' Camera, with potential new leaps in how 3D can be filmed. Look at around the 8:25sec mark for the most intriguing display of 'new thinking' with Pre-production illustration from artists John Howe and Alan Lee. Just a gimmick, or does it have potential?
Really interesting. I wonder what the current state of the art is in 3-D storyboarding?
ReplyDeleteI was about to say, this has inspired me, for in later semesters, to actually see if adding 3D into the storyboarding process might actually be a viable way to enhance a narrative. A lot of the complaints about 3D being an afterthought could be solved simply by utilizing it so early on in the design process.
